Here I am. This is where we work... hard. This is where the phone rings, where there’s click and clang, clack and tack. Thumbs run over space bars, brows curl as time spills from the clock, words are etched and sketched on a white screen, yawns stretched from the souls of the drained. The craft is formed, the mind numbed, the text typed and the
God knows I love it. The work has to be done and this group does it. Next to me are those who love it and need it; those who want it and grab it. The skills they learn, they use. For them, there is no price to long hours, sagged eyes and blood stained tears when files crash and hard work dies. If they were in the dead heat, they’d be drenched. They run, jump, scream and swing on the screen--The price for the skill—the craft—the muse that Stepp sings praise to.
I look and grin. I too have stepped into that role. Tired eyes. The click and the clack of a mad type on a blank, white screen fills my ears over and over again. I’m there far too late, so I take the Word of God--my muse-- with me. Pizza crumbs spoil my shared desk. It’s my life right now.
Click…clack…click…clack…over…and over…and over. The phone rings, the thumbs run, the words are etched and sketched. It starts. It ends. It starts. It ends.

ALERT! ALERT! THERE ARE CHRISTIANS ON CAMPUS!
Yes, it’s true. Individuals with smiles on their faces, pep in their step, basic feelings of anger and sorrow coaxed over by an overwhelming peace and a Bible in their book-bag are walking along our campus, practically skipping in their hearts and with an aura of sunshine radiating from their person.
I feel like I just described a bad stereotype of a Mormon.
I don’t choose to wear the typecast described above. Instead, I choose Christianity as a lifestyle.
I do believe in God. More than that, I love Him. Because I love Him and know without a doubt that He loves me all the more, I choose to live as He commands; meaning there are certain things I don’t do. It also means that I have certain responsibilities, such as ministry. I’m not the only one who realizes that our message of hope isn’t something to just sit on.
Rachel Middleton, a junior integrated marketing communication major and theatre minor, is a Christian on campus.
She’s also a peer mentor and has been involved with the campus ministry, RUF, she was on the events activities committee for Relay for Life and she’s designed props for the theatre department’s productions.
Being at a liberal arts school, she said that she knows that not everyone is going to agree with her beliefs. That doesn’t stop her from living her life and still carrying on in ministry.
“[Theatre] is just a good chance to live my life around them and have them experience the love I’ve experienced,” Middleton said.
Though she is cutting back from RUF during her junior year, she is stepping up the game as a peer mentor and still concentrating on her mission.
“My motive for that is to just love those kids,” Middleton said.
With her amiable personality and sunny disposition, Middleton walks in her responsibility of sharing the love of Christ with others. She said she knows she’s not alone.
She’s right.
Aaron Rich is a junior information design major entering his second year in the leadership position of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Rich said that he was excited to meet new freshmen students who may be looking for a place to be plugged in or belong.
“And I couldn’t think of a better place than ministry,” Rich said.
With a temperament that rivals Middleton’s, and sunny blonde hair to match, Rich said that one obstacle he’s come across is recruiting other guys to join Campus Crusade. This semester, though, he’s come back with a new attitude, renewed spirit and ready to pump up the outreach.
So yes, there is more to being a Christian than talking the talk; you also have to walk the walk. Students on campus, prepare yourselves, because it seems that the Christians on campus are about to take a few steps.
